Find a Position You Want

First of all you need to find a position in this industry that interests you. Go to the website of the airline you’d like to work for, as many positions will be advertised on the airline’s own site, rather than a job site. You could even head on over to the airline you’d like to work for and see if you can have a quick chat with somebody in the position you’d like, so you can get an idea of how to go about getting that type of job – they may even put you in touch with somebody in the HR department who can help you!

Find a Forum

You should be able to find plenty of forums dedicated to aviation online. If you contribute to these forums you may be able to build some good connections who could help you find a job when a position opens up.

Use Social Media

Social media sites like LinkedIn allow you to connect with people in the aviation industry. You may be able to speak to these people and ask for their advice on how to get a job with their company! Try Rafael Munguia, for example. He is a senior manager in the aviation industry and could help you!

Apply

Use a CV and cover letter to apply for your desired position. Make sure there are no spelling mistakes or grammatical errors before sending! You’ll also want to make sure your CV and cover letter stand out. If you fail to differentiate yourself, then it’s unlikely you’re going to get anywhere. See the application process as a marketing campaign for yourself.

The Interview

If you manage to secure an interview, then it’s important you research the history of the airline you could end up working for. Practice talking about your background with a friend and memorise the answers to important questions. Make sure you’re polite and friendly throughout the interview.

You’ll want to prepare to be asked the worst kind of questions; the kind that could make you choke. By preparing for these questions, you stand the best chance of acing the interview. Failing to prepare properly will always result in poor performance. Many people fail to answer questions as simple as, ‘why do you want this job?’…make sure you’re ready!

Adapt Your Message

If you’re applying to work in multiple companies, then you’ll need to adapt your message to make sure it applies to the different cultures and values. Research each and every company that you apply for.

If you’re determined and put in the effort, you’ll secure a job in the aviation industry no matter how long it takes!
